The M4A1 was essentially the
same as the M4 base but with the cast hull as originally intended. Despite the
A1 suffix this version was the first to enter into production. This version of
the M4A1 has the hull hatch doors that open away (slight slant) to accommodate
for the T23 turret with the M1 76mm gun. Throughout WWII there were many
versions of the M4 Sherman tank, and this is one of the more popular ones, seeing
action on both the European and Pacific theaters of operations. |

- Right and left Track sections
- Turret with Gun mantel
- M1 76mm gun barrel
- Tank commander with hatch doors

The model was designed with war games in mind. Most miniature games have rules concerning the tank commander being out of the open hatch observing the battle field and giving bonus to his crew for spotting, firing and such. This is now very easy to show by simply placing the tank commander in place to show he is “unbuttoned” or remove him to show he has “buttoned up” for safety in a hostile environment.
